Lex Africa Semper

This site brings together a selection of peer-reviewed writings produced along an ongoing journey of research and teaching, anchored in a sustained and multidirectional reflection on business law in Africa.

I felt it was timely to collect them.

The name Lex Africa Semper draws inspiration from Pliny the Elder’s enduring phrase — Ex Africa semper aliquid novi (“Out of Africa, always something new”). It speaks to the vibrancy and constant evolution of law across the continent, shaped by global transformations and the interwoven mosaic of legal traditions and historical legacies.

The diversity of topics is meant to reflect complex and challenging intricacies in what I hope constitutes a coherent intellectual project.  One that seeks to understand, accompany, and at times anticipate the transformations at work within the continent’s legal landscapes.

This corpus also reflects a personal journey across a wide range of professional, geographical, and intellectual horizons. Several of these texts were indeed co-authored, and this compilation is also an opportunity to acknowledge the valuable collaborations and encounters that have shaped my path.

Through this site, I hope to offer not only a space for reflection, but also a platform for continuing dialogue and engagement with African legal thought.

Enjoy your reading — and feel free to reach out for a stimulating legal palaver.
